Turret Camera Kits

A turret camera kit pairs matched turret cameras with a PoE NVR, a pre-installed surveillance-grade hard drive, and the cabling to connect them — spec'd to work together out of the box. The turret (also called an "eyeball") is the most popular form factor for general perimeter coverage: a fixed lens in a ball-and-socket mount, compact, easy to aim, and less prone to the spider-web and front-glare problems that affect bullet cameras. It suits front doors, back doors, side approaches and yards on most homes and small-business sites.

Security Cameras Australia stocks the turret kit range across Hikvision and HiLook, in 4MP, 6MP and 8MP resolutions and with AcuSense AI filtering and ColorVu colour night vision options. Every kit is genuine Australian stock with full manufacturer warranty, and footage records locally to the NVR — you own it, with no monthly subscription.

Why a turret camera kit

  • Compatibility is guaranteed. The NVR's PoE ports match the camera count and the hard drive is sized for the cameras' resolution at 30-day retention — no mismatched-component mistakes.
  • The default form factor. Turret cameras cover general perimeter positions well, aim easily, and avoid the front-glare and web issues bullets can have.
  • Records locally, no subscription. Footage is kept on the NVR's drive on your premises — you own it, with no monthly fee.

What's in a turret kit

  • Turret cameras matched to the kit's resolution and feature set.
  • PoE NVR with built-in ports for the cameras.
  • Surveillance-grade hard drive pre-installed on HDD-included kits, or supply your own on BYO kits.
  • Mounting hardware per camera and a quick-start guide.
  • Not included: Cat6 cable to each camera, a monitor, your internet router.

Which turret kit is right for you

Resolution. 4MP is enough for general perimeter on most properties; step up to 6MP for better identification headroom, or 8MP / 4K only when you need to read faces or number plates at distance. Higher resolution uses more storage, so the kit's drive is sized to match.

Feature set. AcuSense filters motion alerts to people and vehicles, cutting false alerts from wind, rain and animals — worth it at outdoor positions. ColorVu holds full colour at night for identification detail. See the AcuSense kits and ColorVu kits.

NDAA note. Hikvision and HiLook are not NDAA-compliant (Public Law 115-232 §889). For government, defence or critical-infrastructure projects that require it, see the NDAA-compliant range.

Frequently Asked Questions about Turret Camera Kits

What is a turret camera, and why is it the most popular choice?

A turret camera puts a fixed lens in a ball-and-socket mount you aim by hand — compact, low-profile and quick to set. Compared with a bullet it has a smaller infrared "halo", so it's less prone to front-glare and to attracting spider webs over the lens; compared with a dome it's easier to aim precisely. For general perimeter views — entries, driveways, yards — it's the form factor most installs default to, which is why most of our kits are built around it.

Turret, bullet or dome — which kit suits my property?

Turret for general perimeter on most homes and small business (the safe default). Bullet for long, narrow runs — a driveway, a fence line, a side passage — where the longer body gives more reach; see the bullet camera kits. Dome for discreet or vandal-prone positions, indoors or under eaves; see the dome camera kits. Most installs mix them — talk to us and we'll match the form factor to each position.

What's included in a turret camera kit?

Matched turret cameras, a PoE NVR with built-in ports for the cameras, mounting hardware for each camera, and a quick-start guide. HDD-included kits ship with a surveillance-grade drive pre-installed; BYO-HDD kits ship without so you can size the drive to your retention. Cat6 cable to each camera, a monitor for local viewing, and your internet router are not included.

Do these kits record without a subscription?

Yes. The cameras record to the hard drive in the NVR, on your premises — there's no cloud fee and no monthly subscription. You own the footage. Remote viewing on your phone (via the Hik-Connect app on Hikvision/HiLook kits) is free; you only need an internet connection at the NVR.

Can I install a turret camera kit myself?

Each camera runs on a single Cat6 cable from the NVR that carries both power and data (PoE), so there's no separate power supply at the camera. The real work is the cable run. For a single-storey home with accessible roof-space paths, a 4-camera install is a sensible weekend DIY job. For two-storey, solid-brick or commercial sites where neat runs and weather sealing matter, professional install is the right call — we can refer a licensed installer.
