PTZ Camera Kits

A PTZ camera kit is built around a motorised pan-tilt-zoom camera with optical zoom and auto-tracking on a PoE NVR — for large yards, car parks, perimeters and any site that needs one camera to actively follow movement and zoom in on detail. Choose a single-PTZ kit, or a hybrid kit that pairs a PTZ with fixed turret cameras so you get continuous wide coverage plus active tracking. A PTZ only points one way at a time, so a hybrid is the right call wherever you also need a constant wide view.

Security Cameras Australia stocks the PTZ kit range. Every kit is genuine Australian stock with full manufacturer warranty, and footage records locally to the NVR — you own it, with no monthly subscription.

For straightforward fixed coverage see the turret and bullet camera kits, or browse all kits in Security Camera Systems.

Why a PTZ camera kit

  • One camera, wide active coverage. Pan, tilt and optical zoom let a single camera cover a large area and zoom in on detail at range.
  • Auto-tracking. On-board AI follows a detected person or vehicle and keeps it in frame.
  • Records locally, no subscription. Footage stays on the NVR on your premises — you own it, with no monthly fee.

PTZ on its own, or with fixed cameras

A PTZ points one way at a time — while it's zoomed in, it isn't watching elsewhere. For continuous coverage, pair it with fixed cameras (our hybrid kits do this): the fixed cameras hold the wide view, the PTZ adds zoom and tracking. A single-PTZ kit suits one large area where active coverage is the whole job. For straightforward fixed coverage, a turret or bullet kit is simpler and cheaper — the honest answer is to use PTZ where its movement actually earns its keep.

What's in a PTZ kit

  • A motorised PTZ camera (single-PTZ kit) or a PTZ plus fixed turret cameras (hybrid kit).
  • PoE NVR with built-in ports; note PTZ models may need Hi-PoE or a supplied injector.
  • Surveillance-grade hard drive pre-installed on HDD-included kits, or supply your own on BYO kits.
  • Mounting hardware and a quick-start guide.
  • Not included: Cat6 cable, a monitor, your internet router.

A note on power

PTZ cameras draw more than fixed cameras and often require Hi-PoE rather than standard PoE. Check the NVR's port spec or use the injector supplied with the kit. If you're unsure, tell us the model and we'll confirm what it needs.

Frequently Asked Questions about PTZ Camera Kits

What is a PTZ camera, and what is it for?

PTZ stands for pan-tilt-zoom: a motorised camera that rotates, tilts and optically zooms, so one camera can cover a wide area and zoom in on detail at distance. Many models auto-track — once a person or vehicle is detected, the camera follows it and zooms automatically. PTZ suits large yards, car parks, perimeters and any site that needs one camera to actively follow movement.

Do I need a single PTZ, or a PTZ paired with fixed cameras?

A PTZ can only point one way at a time — while it's zoomed in on one spot, it isn't watching the rest. That's why a PTZ is usually paired with fixed cameras: the fixed cameras give continuous wide coverage and the PTZ provides active zoom and tracking on top. Our hybrid kits bundle both. A single-PTZ kit suits a spot where active coverage of one large area is the whole job. Tell us the site and we'll advise.

How does auto-tracking work?

The camera's on-board AI detects a person or vehicle in a defined area, then pans, tilts and zooms to keep it in frame as it moves. You can set patrol presets (positions the camera cycles through) and the zones where tracking is active. It's powerful for large open areas, though for fixed-point coverage a turret or bullet is simpler and cheaper.

Do these kits record without a subscription?

Yes. Footage records to the hard drive in the NVR on your premises — no cloud fee, no monthly subscription, and you own the footage. Free remote viewing and PTZ control via the app; you only need an internet connection at the NVR.

Can I install a PTZ camera kit myself?

PTZ cameras are heavier and draw more power than fixed cameras — many need Hi-PoE rather than standard PoE, so check the NVR or use the supplied injector. Each still runs on a single cable, and the cable run plus a solid mount is the real work. Given the weight, height and power, PTZ installs are often better done professionally; we can refer a licensed installer.
