Is 2N suitable for an apartment building intercom retrofit?

2N is fully IP, so retrofit installs need either Cat6 cabling to each apartment or a building-wide IP riser solution. 2N doesn't natively support 2-wire retrofit over existing analog intercom risers (that's a Hikvision strength). For new builds and buildings with structured cabling already in place, 2N is excellent. For older apartment buildings preserving existing 2-wire intercom risers without re-cabling, Hikvision 2-wire IP-over-twisted-pair is the better fit. We'll help you specify the right option.

What's Access Commander and do I need it?

2N Access Commander is the management software for multi-tenant and multi-door 2N installs — centralised user directory, credential management, schedules, event logging, and reporting. For single-residential or small commercial with a few users, you don't need it — local management on the door station is enough.
