What IP audio offers vs traditional amplified-line audio
Traditional commercial audio runs amplified-line speakers from a central amplifier rack, with dedicated speaker cabling to each zone. Axis Network Audio runs IP speakers over the existing Cat6 PoE network — same cabling as IP cameras, often through the same PoE switches. Practical consequences:
- Single-cable install. Cat6 PoE to each speaker — power and audio over the same cable. No separate speaker cabling.
- No amplifier rack. Each speaker is independently amplified at the speaker. No central amplifier sizing or replacement when zones change.
- Per-zone independence. Each speaker is independently controllable — pages to one zone don't disrupt music in another.
- Network management. Centralised configuration, monitoring, and integration with broader Axis platform.
- Future-proofing. Adding zones is a network-switch port plus a speaker, not an amplifier reconfiguration.
The IP architecture suits retrofit installs as much as new builds — wherever the network already runs, Axis Network Audio extends the speaker layer at low marginal cost.
What's in the range
IP horn speakers
Wall-mount or pole-mount horn speakers for outdoor and large indoor spaces. Used at carpark paging, building entries, transit platforms, large warehouse zones. Weatherproofed (IP66+), high SPL output for outdoor coverage.
IP ceiling speakers
In-ceiling speakers for indoor retail, hospitality, office and institutional zones. Lower-profile aesthetics for customer-facing spaces. Two-way audio variants available for ceiling-based paging-and-listen applications.
IP cabinet speakers
Bookshelf/cabinet-mount speakers for offices, classrooms, retail stockrooms. Higher fidelity than typical ceiling speakers for music-quality background audio.
IP audio interfaces
Network-to-line interfaces for connecting traditional amplified-line systems to the IP audio network, or for triggering external announcement systems from IP audio events.
Network audio management
Software platforms for centralised paging, scheduling, zone management, and event integration.
Use cases by site type
Retail
Zoned background music (per department, per area, per day-part), targeted paging ("lost child in toys, staff to checkout"), customer-flow announcement (closing time, special offers), emergency evacuation broadcast.
Hospitality
Zoned ambient music (restaurant, bar, pool, lobby — each with appropriate audio), conference and event paging, emergency broadcast.
Schools and education
Bell scheduling, classroom announcement, assembly broadcast, emergency lockdown announcement, after-hours perimeter paging.
Transit and infrastructure
Platform announcement, scheduled and live announcements, emergency broadcast, integration with passenger information systems.
Commercial buildings
Lobby and elevator paging, evacuation broadcast (often integrated with the fire-detection system), background music in common areas.
Integration with Axis cameras and intercoms
Camera-triggered audio
Camera detects an event (motion, line-crossing, license plate, behaviour analytics) → audio system plays a pre-recorded announcement ("Trespass detected, area is monitored") or activates a live operator paging channel.
Intercom paging integration
Intercom call routes through the audio paging network — useful for shop-floor paging when a customer rings the bell at the unattended counter, or for facility-wide paging from the reception desk.
Operator workflows
Paging operator sees camera views of the zone being addressed — useful for shopfront paging where the operator can see the customer being asked to wait, or for evacuation announcement where the operator can confirm zones are responding.
NDAA and procurement
Full NDAA §889 compliance across the Network Audio range. Suitable for federal, state, defence, education, transit and procurement-restricted contexts.
