Axis Network Audio

Axis Network Audio is the IP audio range — network-powered speakers, paging systems, and audio interfaces that run over the same Cat6 PoE network as IP cameras. Single-cable install per speaker, no separate amplifier or audio cabling, central management via the Axis platform or third-party audio management software. Use cases span retail (ambient music plus targeted paging), hospitality (zoned background audio plus announcement), schools (bell scheduling, classroom announcement, emergency broadcast), transit (platform announcement and emergency broadcast), and commercial buildings (paging, evacuation, background music). The system integrates with Axis cameras and intercoms — door events trigger audio responses, paging operators can see camera views of the zones they're addressing, and emergency events trigger pre-recorded announcement broadcasts. NDAA §889 compliant.

Security Cameras Australia is an authorised Axis dealer. Every Axis Network Audio device is genuine Australian stock with full manufacturer warranty.

What IP audio offers vs traditional amplified-line audio

Traditional commercial audio runs amplified-line speakers from a central amplifier rack, with dedicated speaker cabling to each zone. Axis Network Audio runs IP speakers over the existing Cat6 PoE network — same cabling as IP cameras, often through the same PoE switches. Practical consequences:

  • Single-cable install. Cat6 PoE to each speaker — power and audio over the same cable. No separate speaker cabling.
  • No amplifier rack. Each speaker is independently amplified at the speaker. No central amplifier sizing or replacement when zones change.
  • Per-zone independence. Each speaker is independently controllable — pages to one zone don't disrupt music in another.
  • Network management. Centralised configuration, monitoring, and integration with broader Axis platform.
  • Future-proofing. Adding zones is a network-switch port plus a speaker, not an amplifier reconfiguration.

The IP architecture suits retrofit installs as much as new builds — wherever the network already runs, Axis Network Audio extends the speaker layer at low marginal cost.

What's in the range

IP horn speakers

Wall-mount or pole-mount horn speakers for outdoor and large indoor spaces. Used at carpark paging, building entries, transit platforms, large warehouse zones. Weatherproofed (IP66+), high SPL output for outdoor coverage.

IP ceiling speakers

In-ceiling speakers for indoor retail, hospitality, office and institutional zones. Lower-profile aesthetics for customer-facing spaces. Two-way audio variants available for ceiling-based paging-and-listen applications.

IP cabinet speakers

Bookshelf/cabinet-mount speakers for offices, classrooms, retail stockrooms. Higher fidelity than typical ceiling speakers for music-quality background audio.

IP audio interfaces

Network-to-line interfaces for connecting traditional amplified-line systems to the IP audio network, or for triggering external announcement systems from IP audio events.

Network audio management

Software platforms for centralised paging, scheduling, zone management, and event integration.

Use cases by site type

Retail

Zoned background music (per department, per area, per day-part), targeted paging ("lost child in toys, staff to checkout"), customer-flow announcement (closing time, special offers), emergency evacuation broadcast.

Hospitality

Zoned ambient music (restaurant, bar, pool, lobby — each with appropriate audio), conference and event paging, emergency broadcast.

Schools and education

Bell scheduling, classroom announcement, assembly broadcast, emergency lockdown announcement, after-hours perimeter paging.

Transit and infrastructure

Platform announcement, scheduled and live announcements, emergency broadcast, integration with passenger information systems.

Commercial buildings

Lobby and elevator paging, evacuation broadcast (often integrated with the fire-detection system), background music in common areas.

Integration with Axis cameras and intercoms

Camera-triggered audio

Camera detects an event (motion, line-crossing, license plate, behaviour analytics) → audio system plays a pre-recorded announcement ("Trespass detected, area is monitored") or activates a live operator paging channel.

Intercom paging integration

Intercom call routes through the audio paging network — useful for shop-floor paging when a customer rings the bell at the unattended counter, or for facility-wide paging from the reception desk.

Operator workflows

Paging operator sees camera views of the zone being addressed — useful for shopfront paging where the operator can see the customer being asked to wait, or for evacuation announcement where the operator can confirm zones are responding.

NDAA and procurement

Full NDAA §889 compliance across the Network Audio range. Suitable for federal, state, defence, education, transit and procurement-restricted contexts.

Frequently Asked Questions about Axis Network Audio

What's the practical difference between IP network speakers and traditional amplified-line speakers?

IP speakers run over Cat6 PoE — single cable per speaker for power and audio, no separate amplifier rack, no dedicated speaker cabling. Each speaker is independently amplified at the speaker itself and independently controllable. Traditional amplified-line systems have a central amplifier rack with dedicated speaker cables to each zone — higher upfront install complexity, and amplifier sizing affects zone capacity. For new installs and retrofits adding paging/audio to existing network infrastructure, IP wins on install cost and management flexibility. For very large coverage areas with simple distribution, traditional systems can still be cost-competitive.

Can Axis cameras trigger audio announcements?

Yes — Axis cameras with on-camera analytics (line-crossing, intrusion zone, license plate, behaviour detection) can trigger audio events via the network audio system. Practical examples: perimeter intrusion fires "Trespass detected, this area is monitored", retail shoplifting analytics fires a discreet paging tone to staff, after-hours motion at a school perimeter fires evacuation-style audio to deter intruders. Configure via the Axis platform or VMS.

Will Axis Network Audio work for evacuation/emergency broadcast?

Yes — Axis Network Audio supports pre-recorded emergency announcements triggered by fire-detection events or operator override. For Australian emergency-warning compliance (AS1670.4 for fire detection and warning, building-specific evacuation requirements), confirm the specific install configuration against the standards — IP audio is technically capable but the certification path needs to be verified per install. For sites needing certified emergency warning systems, specify the install with the fire-services integrator at the same time.

Can I have different music in different zones?

Yes — each IP speaker is independently controllable. Configure per-zone audio streams (separate music for restaurant, bar, pool, lobby — each with appropriate audio for the zone and day-part). Scheduled changes through the day. Live override for paging that interrupts the music in the addressed zone(s) only, without affecting other zones.

Are Axis Network Audio speakers NDAA-compliant?

Yes — full NDAA §889 compliance across the range. Suitable for federal procurement, state government contracts, education, transit and any procurement context excluding Chinese-manufactured hardware. We provide tender documentation including NDAA compliance statements.
