How to choose between the kits in this collection

Five axes, in roughly the order most buyers decide on them:

1. Resolution. 4MP is enough for general perimeter on most properties. Step up to 6 or 8MP when you need to identify faces or number plates at distance, or you're future-proofing for a larger display. Higher resolution uses more HDD storage, so size the drive to match.

2. Camera technology. Standard cameras handle "see what happened" reliably. AcuSense (Hikvision) adds on-camera AI that classifies people and vehicles versus everything else — stops false alerts from wind, rain and animals. ColorVu adds full-colour night vision via a wider aperture and supplementary light, useful when you need colour identification at night. Strobe & Siren models add an active deterrent — a light flash and siren on triggered detection.

3. Brand. Hikvision is the broader range with AcuSense and ColorVu and the longer warranty. HiLook is Hikvision's value sub-brand — same core tech, fewer advanced features, lower price. 4. HDD — BYO or included. BYO kits ship without the drive so you can pick the size that matches your retention need (commonly 4 TB for 14-day retention on 4 cameras, 8 TB for 30-day, depending on resolution and frame rate). Included-HDD kits ship with a 2 TB or 4 TB drive pre-installed for a simpler one-purchase buy.

5. UPS or not. A bundled UPS is useful if the property has patchy mains power or you want the system to keep recording during short outages. For most metro properties it's a nice-to-have, not essential.

Is 4 cameras the right number for your site?

4 cameras suits: a typical single-storey home with front, rear and two side or angle positions; a shopfront with two front-facing and two interior cameras; a small office or clinic with entry, reception and two general-space views.

Step down to 2 cameras if: you're covering a single property frontage or a small unit and don't need rear or side coverage — see the 2-camera kits.

Step up to 6 or 8 cameras if: the property is two-storey with multiple aspects, has a long driveway plus a yard, or has multiple buildings (granny flat, shed, side gate to cover) — see the 6-camera or 8-camera kits.
