6MP Camera Kits

A 6MP camera kit hits the detail sweet spot for most properties — noticeably more detail than 2K/4MP for identifying faces and number plates, without the storage demands of full 4K. Available across turret, bullet and dome cameras on a PoE NVR, it's the resolution we'd suggest first for the majority of residential and small-commercial installs, which is why it's the most common buy across the kit range.

Security Cameras Australia stocks the 6MP kit range. Every kit is genuine Australian stock with full manufacturer warranty, and footage records locally to the NVR — you own it, with no monthly subscription.

Why a 6MP kit

  • The detail sweet spot. Clearly more detail than 4MP for faces and plates, without the storage load of full 4K.
  • The all-round standard. For most residential and small-commercial perimeters, 6MP is the resolution to start with.
  • Records locally, no subscription. Footage stays on the NVR on your premises — you own it, with no monthly fee.

Is 6MP the right resolution for you?

6MP is the all-round standard. Drop to 4MP where storage economy matters and distances are short, or step up to 8MP / 4K for long driveways and plate-readable work. The honest answer: 6MP is the safe default for most properties — match it to your distances and spend any difference on the features that earn their keep.

What's in a 6MP kit

Frequently Asked Questions about 6MP Camera Kits

Why is 6MP the popular choice?

6MP hits the sweet spot for most properties — noticeably more detail than 4MP/2K for identifying faces and number plates, without the storage demands of full 4K. For the majority of residential and small-commercial installs it's the resolution we'd suggest first, which is why it's the most common buy across the kit range.

6MP vs 4MP vs 8MP — how do I choose?

4MP for general short-range coverage where storage economy matters; 6MP as the all-round standard with good identification headroom; 8MP / 4K for long distances and plate-readable detail. Match resolution to your viewing distances, and remember higher resolution uses more storage. See the 4MP and 8MP / 4K kits.

How much storage does a 6MP kit use?

More than 4MP, less than 4K. As a rough guide with H.265+, four 6MP cameras at ~30-day retention fit on an 8 TB surveillance drive; more cameras or longer retention need more. Tell us the camera count and target days and we'll confirm the size.

Do these kits record without a subscription?

Yes. Footage records to the hard drive in the NVR on your premises — no cloud fee, no monthly subscription, and you own the footage. Free remote viewing via the app; you only need an internet connection at the NVR.

Can I install a 6MP kit myself?

Each camera runs on a single Cat6 cable from the NVR that carries power and data (PoE) — no separate power at the camera. The cable run is the real work. Single-storey homes with accessible roof-space paths are a sensible DIY job; two-storey and commercial sites are usually better done professionally. We can refer a licensed installer.
