Why a kit with backup power
- It keeps recording when the power drops. A standard kit goes dark the moment the mains fails; the UPS keeps the NVR and cameras running through short outages.
- It protects the system. The UPS smooths sags and spikes that can corrupt a recording in progress or shorten the hard drive's life.
- Records locally, no subscription. Footage stays on the NVR on your premises — you own it, with no monthly fee.
Do you need backup power?
It's worth it where the mains is patchy, the area is storm-prone, the property is rural or on a long feeder, or a footage gap genuinely isn't acceptable (commercial sites, high-value contents). For a typical metro home on stable power it's a sensible extra rather than essential. The honest answer depends on your site — tell us and we'll say which side of the line you're on.
What's in the kit
- Matched cameras and a PoE NVR with built-in ports.
- A UPS sized to the system for sensible short-outage runtime.
- Surveillance-grade hard drive pre-installed on HDD-included kits, or supply your own on BYO kits.
- Mounting hardware per camera and a quick-start guide.
- Not included: Cat6 cable to each camera, a monitor, your internet router.
Sizing the runtime
Runtime depends on UPS capacity and the system's draw (camera count and NVR). These kits pair a UPS sized for the common short outages and to bridge to a generator where one exists. For extended runtime, tell us the camera count and target hours and we'll size it. For UPS units on their own, see the UPS range.
